How we do business
At Intex, we recognise that the impact of our operations extends beyond the immediate worksite and that we have a responsibility to commit to good corporate citizenship, with respect to all our stakeholders.
This means we consider the “triple bottom line” – financial, social and environmental. When planning and researching future projects, we engage in honest dialogue with all stakeholders in order to understand their needs and expectations. We are then able to adopt an informed, holistic approach to our business, thus ensuring a sustainable and positive impact on the economic and social development of East Africa.
Intex is actively committed to supporting the conservation and protection of the environment. We manage our operations within a context of sustainability and regularly review our environmental performance to drive continued improvement:
- We comply with relevant environmental legislation and regulations, and in certain cases even exceed industry requirements; for example, conducting environmental impact assessments where they are not statutory.
- We put in place concrete measures to prevent and minimise adverse environmental impacts that could result from our operations (e.g. noise pollution from blasting).
- We educate, train and motivate our people on relevant environmental issues.
- We adopt positive initiatives to support the sustainability of our environment, e.g. tree planting and hydro-seeding.
At Intex we are proud to invest a proportion of our profits into community development initiatives, to enhance quality of life for people who need external support to lift themselves out of poverty, and to create sustainable and vibrant futures for their communities.
Rhino Ark
We donate funds to Rhino Ark, a charity based in Kenya and the UK with a mission
to raise funds and material support to build an electrified fence encircling
both the Aberdares National Park and the demarcated forestry areas in the Aberdares
conservation area. The main purpose is to prevent illegal exploitation of the
forest habitat and to promote the sustainable use of forest products for the
benefit of both present and future generations.
Jaipur Foot Project
Intex has supported this project for many years, which provides
prostheses free of cost to amputees, especially to those who have lost their
limbs to landmines. We are proud to say that our support for the project goes
beyond writing cheques. Our people have lent their expertise and time to manage
the construction of extensions to the main workshop, kitchen and stores, in order
to enable the project staff to work comfortably and effectively.
East African Safari Classic Rally (One of the world’s greatest
rallies)
Intex has most recently been an avid participant in
the East Africa Safari Classic Rally. Our Managing Director, Samit Gehlot took
part for the first time in the rally in December 2009 and came out 15th overall.
Again in April 2010, he participated in KCB Rally and was 2nd in classic
category.
Intex also supports the following non-governmental organisations (NGOs), in order to enable them to continue and to scale up their valuable work in the community:
- Unicef Kenya
- India Women Association
- Rhino Ark
- Tabitha Muguna Medical Fund
- Shree Jalaram S. Mandal
